"For if the word spoken THROUGH angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense," (Heb 2:2) |
"For if the word spoken BY angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward" |

If the word was spoken THROUGH angels, then someone had to
do the actual speaking. And whoever spoke through angels would have to be
greater than the angels. Who is greater than angels?
Only God the Father, God the Son, or the Holy Spirit.
Should we suspect that any one of Them would cause the angels to transgress or disobey?
The NASV translators apparently were confused, thinking that, because angels often carried God's message to people, and spoke in His stead, that God had created them as some kind of robots. That concept might help settle the age-old liberal philosophical contention that God created both good and evil, and that angels could only act and speak as they were prompted by God. That would make even Satan as innocent as a new-born babe. But it ain't quite like that! God created neither good nor evil. God created things, and saw that they were good. God created angels, and most of them were good. He created people, and few of them were good. Modern translators do not seem to understand that God created angels, as well as people, with minds of their own; they could either choose to serve Him, or not. It rather appears that the modern translators, ever so anxious to make their Bible as different as possible from the KJV, weren't thinking very clearly. The KJV rendering assures us that the angels did their own speaking, and were themselves responsible for what they said. |
