"Offended" means one thing, "Fall Away" means something else

New American Standard Version

Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night..."
(Matthew 26:31)
King James Bible

"Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night..."
In this translation Jesus supposedly told them that they would fall away. But that could hardly be true, because when someone fell away, The Bible says he is lost forever! We find this even on their own NASV:

"For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify unto themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame." (Heb. 6:4,5,6)

But the New Testament Scriptures make it abundantly clear that the disciples did not fall away, so it doesn't take heavy scholarship to understand that "to be offended" is not the same thing as "to fall away."

Why did the modern translators say the apostles would fall away? Good question!
